Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submitted paper has not been previously published, nor is it submitted to another journal for consideration.

  • The submitted paper is PRINT READY, i.e. proofread, and accompanied by an Abstract in English, articulating the aims, the main theses and the novelty of the paper. The abstract should include also at least 5 keywords.

  • The submitted paper is accompanied by a bio-biographical note including name, address, institutional affiliation, academic degree and position, and main publications.

  • The submission is under the author's real name. Submitting a paper under a pseudonym will lead to an automatic rejection of the manuscript for the reason of using a fake personality.

  • The text is in Microsoft Word format, double-spaced, uses a 12-point font, and employs only regular and italics; NO BOLD in TEXT, and NO UNDERLINING (!).

  • All citations are given as INLINE citations and not as footnotes (!) with bibliographic References as an A-Z list at the end of the paper, both in accordance to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines above.

  • The footnotes are provided only as brief explanations no more than 5 lines.

  • Quotations of a text in foreign language are made according to a published translation, i.e. no own translations allowed! Published translations have to be used even they seem not to be perfect; inexact or wrong translations can be modified and commented in a footnote. In case that a work has not been translated, it is better to paraphrase the author than to offer own translations.

  • The instructions for Blind Review have been followed.

  • All charts should be submitted as jpg, png or gif file and have a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Charts with lower resolution cannot be printed and will be rejected.

  • The submitted paper does not include photographs.

  • The submission is in accordance with the Code of Ethics and the Anti-Plagiarism Policy and the author gives hereby his explicit agreement for the publication of the paper.

Author Guidelines

The Labyrinth journal accepts contributions in English, German and French. The articles should not be longer than 10,000 words (50'000 characters), if not authorized by the editors, and not be shorter than 6000 words (text without the bibliographic references at the end of the paper). Articles in two parts may also be accepted if every part is independently intelligible. The bookreviews should not be longer than 2000 words (10,000 characters).

Each article should be submitted with an abstract in English of 100-150 words and 5 keywords, both at the beginning of the article. The abstract should not be just a description of the question(s) to be treated. It should include, first, a clear statement about the purpose of the paper, second, show the importance/actuality of the subject, and third, most importantly, the original contribution of the paper, i.e. proposition of a new solution, argumentation of a new thesis, uncovering of new aspects of the problematics, application of new methodology etc.

Each author should also provide a separate file with a brief bio-bibliographical note including name, address, institutional affiliation, academic degree and position, and main publications (150-300 words). NB: Labyrinth welcomes young reserachers, but it is not a student's journal, i.e. authors with PhD will be given priority.

The manuscript must be supplied print ready, i.e. already proofread, in electronic format as a Microsoft Word document. All citiations should be made as INLINE citations providing the References as an A-Z list at the end of the paper. Brief Footnotes (no longer than 5lines) are allowed only as explanations and should not be provided as Endnotes, but as Footnotes.

Before submitting an article, check the Submission Preparation List. Articles will not be accepted unless an abstract, 5 keywords, and a bio are provided, and will not be accepted for peer review if not fulfilling all the requirements of the Author's Guidelines.

By submitting a paper, the author gives explicitely the right to the journal to sent it for peer review and to publish it, if the reviews are positive. Additional to that, authors will have to sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement.

As we publish in different languages, all quotations should use straight double quote in order to preserve the same format. Use straight single quote for the insight quote.
